Year 1 had an amazing time on Wednesday on their trip to Filey. We spent lots of time on the beach, having our picnic, playing and going for a paddle. We enjoyed an icecream before walking to have a look at the lifeguard on the beach and the lifeboat station as well. Thank you to all parents who came along to help. If your child went on Tuesday please take a look on the 1C class blog for photos from that day.

Trio Globo
Today the children enjoyed a performance from musical group Trio Globo who play different music from all around the world. Trio Globo played us some different music that would have been heard by the passengers on The Titanic. They started playing ‘The Entertainer’ and then played a waltz that would have been danced to by the passengers in first class. We heard some music that would have been traditional for the passengers from Scotland and Ireland and then some music that would have been performed by the Jewish passengers on the ship. The children had the opportunity to dance along as well as use some percussion instruments. The musicians also talked to the children about the different instruments they were playing including the accordion, saxophone, clarinet and violin.
Computing

This week in computing we have been reminding ourselves how to log onto the computers. Then once logged in the children have used a word processing programme and the keyboard to type their names and also have a go at typing a sentence. We talked again about the different important keys such as the space bar, shift, caps lock and enter and what each one of them does.
Well done 1BN!
A huge well done to all of 1BN for their fantastic effort in this week’s phonics screening checks! The hard work and dedication the children have shown—not just in recent weeks, but throughout the entire year—has truly paid off. Thank you to everyone who supported practice at home as well. The children showed real perseverance, like tough tortoises, tackling all 40 words with care and determination. We’re incredibly proud of them!
Onomatopoeia
This week in our Talk for Writing we have been learning about onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is when words sound like the noise being described. For example ‘Crunch went the leaves.’ or ‘The cars smashed into each other.’ The children drew pictures and came up with their own onomatopoeia words.

Emoji Hunt
This week at ACE it is Mental Health Week. We did an emoji with the emotions from our emotions register. We then used these emotions to talk about different scenarios and imagined how these would make us feel and how we would resolve them.

Arts Fortnight
1BN had a really busy time during their Arts Fortnight, creating lots of amazing pieces of art work in the studio. After our walk to the woods, we made woodland pictures inspired by our trip. First the children used sponges, brushes and stipple brushes to paint the background then once this was dry we added the details such as trees and plants using pastels, pencil crayons and felt tips. We did some observational drawings of tulips looking carefully at the shapes, colours and size. Then we transferred our tulips onto long rolls of paper, keeping everything the same but making them much bigger.
During the second week we read the story Bog Baby and then created our own little creatures. We made our creatures using Plasticine, which as a challenge as we needed to make them 3D and able to stand up and sometimes they kept falling over. We used polystyrene tiles, ink and rollers to then create a print of our own Bog Babies. We rounded the two weeks off with our amazing celebration, sharing all our amazing work and having a go at some of the activities with our family members.
Arts Fortnight Woods Walk
This week we kicked off our Arts Fortnight by going on a walk to the local woods. It was a glorious afternoon for our walk and having already mapped out the route we were going to take in last weeks Geography lesson, we successfully found our way there. On the way we also linked to our Geography by talking about the different human and physical features that we could see such as the house, school and roads and the woods and stream. During the rest of the week we have worked in the art studio to create some pieces linked to our walk in the woods and we can’t wait to share them with our families during our arts celebration next Friday.
Making Equal Groups

In Maths this week we have been sorting into equal groups. We used lots of practical resources including counters to make equal groups, ensuring that each group had the same number. Then we played a game with a partner using dice. We each had two dice and the aim was to roll the same number with our dice then we got a pint because they were equal. This is going to help us when we start to multiply and divide numbers.
Amazing Writing
This week we have been thinking of adjectives to describe the sandwich from the story. The children came up with lots of great adjectives including disgusting, smelly, stinky, gross, revolting, muddy, mouldy and slimy. We then out the adjectives into sentences. Take a look and let us know how you think we did!
